A busy time –Rambles from a busy woman
Last update: 28.09.10 First posted: 19.02.10 by Mary in busywomanThe last few weeks have been very busy, no growing food, just cultivating dreams.
We have fixed up our bit of the Made in Tod weekend, come and see us on our
stand in the town hall next Friday and Saturday. We will be joined by Calderdale council’s ‘love food, hate waste’ people; Pauline will do her egg thing.
Two lovely men came from Goldsmiths College, to see the wonderment of Tod,
we had a great conversation about my favourite subject, KINDNESS. Pity I was at work or I would have loved a brew with them.
I have followed blogs talking about us across the world from Bogota to Switzerland, and sent little messages of hope, little messages, because I type all day at work and hate typing, not because I have not much to say.
I have spoken to dozens of people who have called me at home to wish us well
after the country tracks programme, been asked for seeds and magic wands.
Pam and I went on a town tidy at the weekend. It was great, misty, murky day, who needs sunshine? Lots of folk around to wave and chat to, we checked the station beds, and bought 40 pots of mint and garlic chives for the canal bank.
On a blog by Swiss reporter “Hanspeter Kuenzler“: http://www.hanspeterkuenzler.com/2010_News,_plans_and_prattle.html he mentions Calderdale Council’s growing man Mark Dempsey as the best bit of the visit, a man who inspires others and loves his job, nice one Mark.
Did an evaluation interview with the SDC, nice to reflect back on the visit to London with Nick and Pam, seeing the prince and all that.
Scarlett, from the WWOOF people, called – they would like to have their AGM in Tod this year, agreed to speak if they come here, it’s the same weekend as the station gala, but what the heck, in for a penny ………………
Met a great chap Roger French from the NHS Forest he has some wonderful ideas, sometimes I want to cry with joy at how lovely the world is getting.
Estelle wanted our biographies for the website and I managed to find a picture of myself with spade some 25 years ago, much better than a modern one.
Tonight I finally learnt how to up load a file to space so we can send powerpoint displays. Feeling rather chuffed with myself.
The local firepersons agreed to have a raised bed at the Fire station as one of the officers is good at vegetable growing, they also have a free meeting room we can use.
Met with Norman, our chair for Todmorden in Bloom, to talk about edible flowers
(of course!)
Tomorrow I see Abbey our new schools projects co-ordinator and plan our
edible incredible year.
Estelle has told me about weaving fabric from nettles, it’s meant to make antiseptic cloth, cant wait to know more about it.
A bit about my cock, old Napoleon is all springy again, I am saving eggs for the schools to hatch out, he is a good lad, still a complete wooss, so many people stop me and ask if that is my cock crowing and each time I see a knife!!! Yet so far people say they love the sound, now if that is not proof of a lovelier place what is.
A town centre cock that is loved.
A typical Kindness act
Today I went into tourist info and was given a envelope with a letter from Spain, no address and a cheque for £15 ! the note said “ I saw you on telly and was inspired by your town, I will come and visit one day”
For good karma sake I then joined the friends of TIC for £20.
I am trying to help Pam with all her visits, where we can both do it we will, mainly at weekends for me, Pam flies to Ireland soon , then she does eco build in London . Slaithwaite tomorrow, the requests never end, NHS and government office next week.
Nick and Estelle are our tour guides extraordinaire, Nick’s on his hols this week
so he has had a well earned rest, ready for the new Jobs training next week.
In-between this glorious stuff, my sister’s boy has a part in Giselle. It’s a big ballet so I am told–well done Ted.
Our neighbours have had a much wanted baby boy, welcome to Todmorden, Fin.
And dearest Fred has fitted a toilet and shower.
Oh and I and the Unitarian super women have finally cleaned up after the
Holocaust evening feast.
Things I acquired this week……….(My only vice collecting things!)
A 1960 Pyrex mixing bowl with yellow roses £1 .20 from the age concern shop.
Brand new sandals –Clarks- £4 hospice shop.
10 eggs from my faithful girls
Alan Darwin gave me the old sign from the Todmorden conservative club
straight from the skip.
Chicken food recycled from the Bear.
Ancient map of Todmorden –copy- tourist information £9
