BBC radio 4's "Costing the earth", visits Tod
Posted: Friday December 11, 2009 by Estelle in RandomPresenter Alice Roberts, interviews some Incredibles for aunty Beeb.
It was dry day for a change which was good, but it was quite chilly when we showed Alice what we are doing here in Tod.
We met in the Bear Cafe and explained about growing food being the key to involving folk as everyone eats, but that IET is more than that, it is about living sustainable lives that don’t damage the planet and possibly with luck and hard work may even improve it.
Hopefully we can send a message out by our actions here, so that other folk might join in.
But food is a good place to start, and every vegetable or egg grown locally is one less that has to be transported causing pollution. Thus we hope we won’t be “costing the earth”.
The Town looked perfect for radio.
From the Bear we went to the wharf where the main interviews were done.

Here Alice talks to Pam and Pauline.
It really was all very interesting, Mary looks under attack from a crazy fur ball in this shot, but it is only the sound man’s mike.

As you can see she was in no danger.

Then it was Pam’s turn and she explained the whole ethos of what we are all about

We left Mary as her lunch break was over and she had to go back to work, and Pam had to dash off to another meeting, such busy girls.
So Nick and I took Alice and the sound man through the town
pointing out the guerilla growing at the Ormerod building, where Nick was interviewed.

We showed them the herb garden on Burnley Road, and finished up at Nick’s place where the sound guy recorded the ducks, and Nick explained all about aquaponics, to the sound of the water circulating through the plants and into the tank.
I hope it will make good listening, to find out if it does, listen out for us on radio 4,
the programme goes out on Thursdays at 1.30pm.
See how good Tod looks in sunshine on the radio.
