Cornholme Community Project get stuck in
Posted: Sunday November 22, 2009 by Nick inWho would have thought that planting a few bulbs and fruit bushes in a graveyard on a windy and wet sunday afternoon would draw a crowd?
But think again, some 30 people of all ages leapt to the task.
We planted 30 fruit bushes, three cherry trees and dozens of bulbs, in the Vale Baptist church graveyard and across the road on the wide verge.

If you dont know Cornholme its up the burnley road where the valley becomes deep and steep, a real crack in the earth! Close to the earths core, they breed em tough here, and rain does’nt stop em!

Across the road the team plant flower bulbs, and 3 cherry trees, a Stella a Sunburst and a Lapans Cherokee, all on Gisella 5 rootstock.

Blackurrant cuttings from Barrys Bank (Harley wood west) where we planted trees last valentines day. We popped 60 or so thinnings into the ground, theyve all rooted so we have loads of “ribena” bushes for free. The rest (rasberries, redcurrants, loganberries, blueberries rubarb) came from our friendly and Very supportive local Garden Centre Gordon Riggs. Thanks to Peter Rigg and the team.

And heres Veteran Incredible Edible Todmorden man Ryan, allways on the case, always keen as mustard. Fill your boots Ryan!
