Every Egg Matters and the Todmorden Egg Map Launch

On Saturday 22nd February Tod market saw the launch of our Every Egg Matters campaign with free pancakes, brilliant egg painting and feathery hen hard hats. Our eggciting aim is to encourage the production and consumption of local eggs.

There was real interest from both consumers and established poultry people and we were able to add seven new names to our Egg map. We now have 19 local people who have surplus eggs for sale. Most of these people have just a few hens but we hope that as demand grows we will see larger local producers taking on the challenge of supplying Todmorden eggs.

We found people eager to discuss poultry keeping, setting up back yard hens, hygiene and welfare matters and how to sell surplus eggs. We asked 140 people how many eggs they ate per week and guess what we’re boringly average in Todmorden and conform to the national average of around 3 per week. There were some amazing people who claimed to eat 12 and 14 eggs a week but we wondered if they were just eggceptional.

We are looking for experienced hen people to share their knowledge with those just starting out, so please get in touch.
