Local Food Workshops in the South Pennines
Calling all Local Foodies in the South Pennines! Pennine Prospects are organising two Local Food Initiative Workshops. The first was held on Monday 22 March at the West Lane Baptist Church in Haworth.
But if you missed that one dont worry you can still go to the second. Workshop on Monday 12 April from 10.30am-1.30pm at The Saddleworth Museum & Art Gallery in Uppermill.
(you can download a booking form at the bottom of the page)
The workshops are part of a Local Food Study commissioned by Pennine Prospects and funded from the Rural Development Programme for England through LEADER. The study aims initially to identify all the food initiatives in the South Pennines LEADER area, find out more about them and suggest ways in which they could work together. Ultimately, a strategy and implementation plan will be drawn up to maximise the number of local food initiatives in the area and ensure that they are delivering maximum economic, social and environmental benefits for the area.
The catalyst for the Local Food Study is the already successful ‘Incredible Edible Todmorden’ initiative, itself supported by the LEADER programme and delivering community, learning and business opportunities through the growing and cooking of local food.
Local food initiatives can be: Community (for example health, housing and social inclusion projects involving growing/cooking local food); Learning (for example formal and informal learning opportunities and NVQs in land-based industries such including horticulture); or Business (for example farm businesses, farmers’ markets, retail and hospitality outlets and food processors).
So, if you are already involved in any of these activities, or are interested in setting up a new local food initiative, then these workshops are for you!
And we are very pleased to invite you to a half day workshop to discuss the emerging outcomes from this very important project. We have been working intensively over the last 2 months to identify food initiatives in the South Pennines Leader Area and to consider their characteristics and potential linkages. The ultimate objective of our work is to develop a strategy and implementation plan to maximise the number, economic, social and environmental benefits of local food initiatives in the South Pennines.
