IET welcomes a visitor from Ghana
Last update: 4.12.11 First posted: 19.03.10 by Paul in Incredible SpreadableThis week saw Appiah Solomon, a visitor from Ghana coming to
Incredible Edible and chatting to Nik and the Acorn programme team and staying at Paul’s house overnight. Paul and Solomon visited many of the growing sites around town, looked in detail at polytunnell design,
beekeeping, chickens, herb growing, street planters and discussed the different ways in which growing in the community takes place in our towns, how we can generate new enterprise from the initiative and how such ideas could be used in the context of the Ghanaian communities.
Solomon was previously presidential adviser to the last president of Ghana, and he is actively involved in establishing numerous small-scale self help projects in Southern Ghana, from his home town Tema. The town has an established fish farm programme, and he is keen to create a link with our project to share ideas and experience.
Solomon went from Todmorden to London where he was meeting with government officials and visiting urban agriculture and education sites. He plans to be back in the Autumn and is hoping to bring a team on the next visit.
In the meantime, we will be keeping closely in touch and hope to gain from his and his colleagues fish farm expertise as our fish farm develops on the high school site.
