Letter from Newzealand
Posted: Tuesday February 2, 2010 by Estelle in SchoolsGreat visits can do great things
At the beginning of January when the weather was about as bad as it could be, Simon Williams from Newzealand was over visiting his family. Before coming over Simon asked to come visit us, and we love showing folk what IET is all about, so of course we said yes please do, the rest as they say is recent history see Visitor From New Zealand blog
Well we just heard from Simon, and he tells us he has had to endure blue skys and temperatures of 25-30 degrees every day since he got back.
Simon lives and works on South Island, at a place called Wanaka. He says what he learned during his visit to Tod High is going to be useful to show the schools there what can be done. He thinks the aquaponics systems may be a great solution especially with their climate. There is plenty of water in Wanaka in the lakes but not much falling from the sky, he tells us. Not like Tod we have plenty of rain.
To read Simon’s blog “Edible Gardening at Tomorden High School” and see the photos of Tod High on his NZ website, click Queenstown Lakes District Council.
looking forward to hearing about the second half of Simon’s visit where Nick explained IET community growing and guerilla gardening, Watch This Space
