Shade gardening club gets digging

So where does our food come from?
Many young children have never grown anything from seed and some do not even know where their food comes from.
So Shade School has set up a gardening club with the aim of introducing children to the joy of growing and eating home grown vegetables.
These are some pictures of the first clearance of a patch of unused land and its planting.
The club is run by teachers, teaching assistants and parents/carers. Around thirty parents got their hands dirty to help prepare the land.
There are forty or so pupil members too, all keen to lend a hand.
Result: land to grow tomatoes, salad, strawberries, potatoes, radishes, onions, garlic – and a few flowering plants too.

Watch this space for more on how inspiring teachers and other school workers, parents, students and a dash of seasoning from Incredible Edible can change the way we look at land and food!
