Here at Lynne Midwinters summer retreat near Alencon we went on a trip to the local goat chese farm, la Mercerie, Antoine and his brother run the farm, make the cheese and sell it all, an amazing amount of work.

The naked facts, 100 milking goats, 200 kids, numerous others.

all turned into cheese on the farm 300litres of milk a day, making 2000 cheeses a week mostly sold less than 14 days old all from unpasturised milk,

25% sold thru restaurants and shops, the rest from two market stalls.

all done by 3 persons.

The rest, these goats are realy sweet, clearly handled with care and respect, the 3 st bernard dogs were lovely too.

After this goat stampede

we spent two hours watching the milking

Then a visit to the dairy in the same barn, we bought a selection of cheses, the girls chatted with antoines brother whilst i scrumped cherries and nicole hugged kids.

all very relaxed but efficient.

the cheeses tasted fantastic, fresh cleamn flavours with hardly a hint of the strog ammonia taste that goat cheese sometimes has.
