Sour Cream Spice Cake

1 3/4 cups flour, 1 cupful brown sugar, 1/4 cup margarine, 1 egg, 3/4 cup thick sour cream, 2 tsp baking powder, 2 teaspoonsfful cinnamon, 1/4 spoonful carbonate of soda, 1/4 tsp salt
Cream margarine and sugar until light and fluffy. Add flour with soda, baking powder, salt and cinnamon and beat. Add egg and beat 2 minutes. Add sour cream and beat until well blended. Pour batter into two 8 inch cake tins which have been well greased and floured. Bake at 350 degree F. for 25-30 minutes. Cool on wire racks

Steak and Kidney Pie

1lb beef steak, 1tbs flour, 1/2 tsp pepper 1/4 lb kidney, 1 level tsp salt, yolk of egg, some good short crust

Cut steak into squares very thin, and kidney into small pieces. Mix flour, salt, pepper, together, then roll each piece of meat in the mixture, place a piece of kidney in each piece of steak and roll up tightly, and place the rolls on end in a pie dish, sprinkle with the remaining seasoning. Then three parts fill with boiling water, cover with crust, brush over with egg. Bake in a hot oven until the crust has risen, then cook slowlyfor 1 1/2 hours.
