Growing round town

Volunteers from iet have been growing vegetables around Todmorden for three years now, and herbs for longer. Mostly we’ve had permission; sometimes, well, you just have to go ahead and do it. Why not go ahead yourself?

Check out the Tow path opposite Fielden Wharf soon to be ripe with vegetables again.

In our first year the beds outside Todmorden College yielded leeks that were cooked by High Fearnley-Whittingstall when he came for our Harvest Festival. Nowadays the college actually knows we’re growing them
And who can have planted the veg at the Abraham Ormerod Centre? Or those cherry trees in Lidl’s car park? See Growing bodies for other places.

Most of these areas were first planted by Nick Green with helpers from around town, and from Community Payback, mental health groups and Futures Jobs Fund.

Currently Nick with other volunteers is focusing on our land at Walsden – you can see it from the train and from the canal – where we are creating a nursery for seeds, plants, veg – and a resource for learning and job-training.
