Growing round town

Volunteers from iet have been growing vegetables around Todmorden since last year and herbs for longer. Mostly we’ve had permission; sometimes, well, you just have to go ahead and do it. Why not go ahead yourself?

Check out Fielden Wharf, first planted in 2008, soon to be ripe with vegetables again.

Last year the beds outside Todmorden College yielded leeks that were cooked by High Fearnley-Whittingstall when he came for our Harvest Festival. This year the college actually knows we’re growing them :)

And who can have planted the veg at the Abraham Ormerod Centre? Or the watercress in Centre Vale Park? Or those cherry trees in Lidl’s car park?

Watch out for much much more. St Mary’s Church are going to be a-planting. And the new Health Centre have changed their planning consent so they can become Incredibly Edible, with fruit trees ‘to replace the prickly stuff’ and an apothecary’s garden.
