Orchards

grafted tree bud bursts

The Community Foundation for Calderdale rewarded our enthusiasm with a grant of £7,200 for trees to plant in and around Tod. Thanks, CFFC!

Many of these trees – cherries mainly – are dotted around the town centre itself. Or soon will be.

There are two orchards already planted by teams of local volunteers: one in Harley Wood, the other at Woodlands Avenue.

By the autumn all will have been planted: we are aiming for three hundred trees this year.

Our medium-term aim is to make our tree-planting self-perpetuating. In the winter of 2009/2010 we’re hoping to run grafting courses in conjunction with local experts so the skills are developed and spread locally. Watch this space.
