Orchards

In our early days the Community Foundation for Calderdale rewarded our enthusiasm with a grant of £7,200 for trees to plant in and around Tod. Thanks, CFFC!

Many of these trees – cherries mainly – are dotted around the town centre itself. There are seven orchards now planted by teams of local volunteers after the pioneering ones in Harley Wood and Woodlands Avenue.

Have a look at our orchard map for a full survey of what we’ve already planted here

Our medium-term aim is to make our tree-planting self-perpetuating. We’ve been running grafting courses, and doing our own grafting, to helpmake this happen.

So far we have 520 trees planted. We’re aiming for 700 by the end of 2011, and 1,000 overall.

Here are some blogs about early planting scenes.
