How we are organised
Incredible Edible Todmorden and all its offshoots are here to campaign and make change happen, not to make money. So why do we have limited companies bearing our name? Where does the money go? How exactly does everything fit together?
Who works for IET?
Our Food Inspirers are Debbie McCall and Pauline Mullarkey. When there’s a Food Hub at the school, it will have a paid manager.
Everyone else is an unpaid volunteer. Fees from speaking engagements on behalf of IET are donated back to the cause. All other income goes directly to pay for tools, materials, trees, seeds, direct publicity costs and IET-related expenses.
Lots of people help us plant and grow, including community payback and mental health support groups as well as many individual helpers. Workers on government schemes like the Futures Jobs Fund work with us but are always employed by another organisation.
Who runs IET?
A steering group meets every month. Its meetings are advertised here and its minutes are posted here. At the moment this steering group is legally an ‘unincorporated community group’, though that’s being reviewed. There are, or are going to be, three sub-groups, reporting to the steering group, with minutes and meetings details also posted here. Everyone in Todmorden and the surrounding area is welcome to any of the ‘three plates’ as we call them (because they all have to be spinning in the air at once to make change happen):
*Community Growers
*Learning
*Business
Who runs the Food Hub?
The Lottery-funded Food Hub at Todmorden High School is a joint project with the school, the primary healthcare trust and the Green Business Network. All those organisations, together with members of the ‘community’ who are IET volunteers, sit on the committee of Incredible Edible Todmorden Ltd (IET Ltd) which legally runs the project. One member of that committee is a sponsor-governor of the School to promote greater mutual links.
IET Ltd is also the legal employer of the Food Inspirers, who are paid.
What about other Incredible Edibles?
Anyone can call themselves Incredible Edible Whatever, though obviously we hope they subscribe to our aims and beliefs. Four of the founding volunteers are on the board of ‘Incredible Edible Ltd’ (note no ‘Todmorden’ mentioned) which was intended to help spread the word. Watch this space for what it does next :)
