Lemon verbena

lemon verbenaAloysia triphylla

Although its common name derives from the Latin for a sacred herb, modern lemon verbena derives from South America. It’s used in Europe for nervous indigestion, mild depression and anxiety. It’s both relaxing to the nerves and uplifting to the spirits.

Many gardeners despair of lemon verbena when it sheds all its leaves in winter, only to find it growing again amid the compost.
