Sea orach

sea orachAtriplex halimus

Sea orach is a salty alternative to its close relative spinach. It’s well-known as a hardy edible plant, but has limited modern medicinal uses. The shoots can be burnt to produce an antacid powder.

The Ancient Greeks used ‘halimon’ for a variety of ailments including many digestive problems, as recorded by Pliny the Elder.
