Celebration of some amazing young people

On Thursday evening a representative group from Incredible Edible were delighted to be invited to attend the graduation event for the young people who have been undertaking the National Community Service programme.

As part of this they have worked with us to tidy and enhance the Pollination Street/old Rose Street site by the side of Bramsche Square. We were so impressed by them. They were cheerful, friendly and very organised, not put off by some of the most horrible weather Todmorden can produce and ‘got stuck in’ in a way that many people twice or three times their age would do well to copy.

They have worked with the Artists Taz, Maria and Roy to create a wonderful mural on the back fence, weeded and edged the Pollination Street bed, cleared dead trees from the site, refreshed our existing planters and made and planted up more raised beds. They also planted a willow installation which, over the next few years will be woven into something lovely. Not content with this they also contributed to enjoyment of children by running a stall at Kidsfest, and helped at the Lamplighter parade.

Their graduation event was attended by the deputy mayor of Calderdale and lots of their families and we were so pleased to have the opportunity to express our appreciation and cheer them loudly as they received their certificates.
Incredible young people
As part of their award they had to undertake fund raising and we were astounded when Tom, one of their leaders announced that the young people had decided to donate some of the money they had raised to Incredible Edible. Not only did they work with us and help to make our town even more incredible but they were also giving us money! We shall be thinking very hard about what we wish to spend this money on to ensure that it is something that supports young people.

We are so proud to have been part of their programme and to have met such inspiring young people, we hope to see them in the future as mentors to future groups of young people who undertake this award.

Well done to all of them and to the leaders who worked with them.
