Coming to the end of an incredible 2016Last update: 11.12.16 First posted: 11.12.16 by Estelle in Blogs
We have enjoyed working with many of Tod’s great community groups over the past year in times of stress like the flood, and times of celebration like harvest festival
The Canal and Rivers trust volunteers have been amazing getting our stretch of the canal back in use and fit for purpose and we were happy to support them by supplying brews and extra hands when needed.
In bitter cold and snow they fitted a rope hand rail in the horse tunnel which is a great help to visitors on incredible tours and to Tod Walkers group and just about everyone who uses the tunnel to get onto the towpath. We couldn’t let their hard work go unrecognised so a week later we had a little ribbon cutting ceremony.
Todmorden Town Mayor Councillor Tony Greenwood did the honours, and we all went into the library for drinks and nibbles. We have kept Tony very busy helping us this month as well as cutting the ribbon he spoke at our annual open meeting where he had us all answering an interactive quiz he had written especially for the occasion, if you fancy trying your hand at answering the questions click here Tony also held a reception in the Town Hall to celebrate Todmorden being in the top three of the Academy of Urbanism greatest town in Europe awards, thanks loads Mr Mayor Sir you done the town proud.
Tours have now finished until the spring the final tour of the year was for The British Muslim Community Network,
the group was made up of people from all over Yorkshire and some from Nottingham, we did spend rather a long time shopping at the market, they were all very impressed with both the indoor and outdoor stalls, hopefully those closer to Tod will make repeat shopping trips.
We couldn’t do any of what we do without the goodwill of the town so a huge thank you everyone, and a very special thank you to all our volunteers who turn out tirelessly come rain or shine.
If you would like to get involved or find out more just email me email@example.com
All that is left to say now is Merry Christmas, Happy Yule, and joyous season’s greetings,
oh and of course a very happy new year for 2017
