I waited with eager anticipation for Wednesday evening to draw near…having been acquainted with Roger and his ideas over a number of years via social-networking sites, I was really looking forward to meeting him in person and listening to his story…

Estelle spent the afternoon with Roger, showing him the sights and delights of Todmorden accompanied by Emily Fribbance and Peter Dew, two architecture students from Manchester University

I met Roger outside the Bear, we were both early, but Rhianne opened up and while Roger set up the projector, everyone began to arrive…Roger began his fantastic talk by explaining his background…Roger Doiron is founder and director of Kitchen Gardeners International, a Maine-based nonprofit network of over 20,000 individuals from 100 countries. He was the instigator of the successful “Eat the View” campaign to persuade the White House to develop a kitchen garden, I know, because I signed the petition! Read more about it here and watch this too!

We had a wonderful and entertaining hour listening to Richard talk about the food supply in our world and what needs to be done to change it, and commended IET on the work that we do here, trying to do the same. Roger also showed us a fabulous film that was recorded for TED.

Roger’s TED talk can be viewed here, it is very good…Roger talks a lot of sense!

All in all, we had a fantastic evening with Roger, and hope that we all learned things that we can share and practise ourselves.
