Todmorden's Top Supermarket ( more stalls added)Last update: 16.04.13 First posted: 3.02.13 by Estelle in Town Centre
Supermarket shopping Todmorden style.
One Saturdy I braved the snow to go to the supermarket, not one with trolleys and checkouts where all the food wears a plastic mack, but a real touchy feely market with actual people to sell you real food, naked as nature intended.
Let me show you some of the fabulous food stalls packed with edible delights.
First the outdoor market
Open Wednesday, Friday Saturday and Sunday
Tod is a long way from the coast but the market fishmonger collects fish fresh from the docs each morning.
beside the fish stall is C.N Quality Foods, with great local produce,
they even have vegetarian black pudding.
then there is Lancashire Cheese with treats from the Ribble Valley
As a veggie the next stall Hazelwoods is one of my personal favourites
Moving on we find The Long Causeway stall, look at the sign Mutton from
Cliviger, just a few miles up the road, cant get much more local.
There is a taste of the exotic here with Turkish delight and succulent olives
you can buy assorted home made pies
And our final outdoor stall has a grand selection of bread, cakes and pies
Now we go inside, an Aladdin’s cave of delights.
Open Wednesday to Saturday
The first stall you see inside the door is Stansfield’s with great local meat
walking around we come to Brian’s Farmfayre stall with chicken and ham
and Ham Corner with, I’m told by visitors on tours. incredibly tasty pies.
Next we come to Mellings, these are the folk who taught one of our free adult learning courses on burger and sausage making.
further on is Bracewells with home reared meat just check out the IET blackboards for the day’s local specialities
Turning the corner we come to the Crumbly Cheese, a huge variety here including Todmorden’s own Pextenement cheese
just past the chees stall we come to our amazing deli, if you love chocolate you will linger longer here as their home made chocolate bar selection makes it very difficult to choose.
Into oriental and Asian cookery then this next stall is for you and avice is always on hand if you arent sure what you need
at the end of this aisle we come to a bakers who by this time in the afternoon has almost sold out
The newest food stall is a fresh fruit and veg stall called The Final Fruiteer
We mustn’t forget furry and feathered folk, so here is the pet food stall
Please remember to feed the wild garden birds through the winter.
Watch this space for updates, and more stalls.
This is a real superMARKET right in the middle of town lets make the most of it, so many market towns have lost theirs, but we still have this incredible treasure to use and enjoy.
